There’s something stark, cold and atmospheric about this novel from the very beginning. It’s a good old fashioned whodunnit, even down to snowstorms, power cuts and everyone having a motive. But it does have a bit of a twist. A group of old friends from Oxford University go for an exclusive weekend in a hunting lodge in Scotland. I actually thought most of the characters were incredibly loathsome, selfish and spiteful. I’m not actually sure why any of these people are friends but, then again, neither are they, that’s the point. Each chapter is told by one of the characters and there is a bit of jumping between narratives but I thoroughly enjoyed the Christie-esque feel to this modern thriller.
